Powerlynx supports Vodacom M-PESA, letting your customers pay for Wi-Fi directly from their mobile money wallet, with no bank card and no redirect to a payment website. The integration is available in five markets: Tanzania, Mozambique, DR Congo, Lesotho and Ghana.
Five Markets, One Integration
Each market settles in its own local currency — Powerlynx derives the currency from your country setting and rejects payments in anything else:
| Market | Currency |
| Tanzania | TZS |
| Mozambique | MZN |
| DR Congo | USD |
| Lesotho | LSL |
| Ghana | GHS |
Mozambique runs on a different Vodacom platform than the other four markets. Powerlynx detects this from your selected country and adjusts the configuration form automatically — you don’t need to pick the platform yourself.
More Ways to Monetize Your Wi-Fi Hotspot with Powerlynx
Vodacom M-PESA joins the growing list of payment gateways Powerlynx already supports — including MTN MoMo, M-Pesa, 1Voucher, FNB Voucher, Netcash, DPO Pay, PayPal, Stripe, Payfast, Xendit, Paystack, and more. Your customers always have a payment option that works for them, whether they prefer mobile money, prepaid vouchers, or card payments.
How Customers Pay with Vodacom M-PESA
Vodacom M-PESA does not send your customer to a payment website. Instead, Powerlynx asks Vodacom to push a payment prompt directly to the customer’s handset and the customer approves it by entering their M-PESA PIN on the phone itself.
The checkout flow looks like this:
- Customer chooses a data plan on the splash page.
- If Powerlynx doesn’t already have a phone number on file, the customer enters it — that’s where the payment prompt is sent. The number is used for this payment only and is discarded when the session ends.
- Vodacom pushes the payment prompt to the customer’s handset over the mobile network.
- The customer approves the payment by entering their M-PESA PIN on the phone.
Payment confirmation does not depend on the customer’s browser: Powerlynx checks the transaction status with Vodacom directly, so a voucher is issued even if the customer closes the page or loses signal right after paying.
How to Start Accepting Vodacom M-PESA Payments
You need a Vodacom merchant account. For Tanzania, DR Congo, Lesotho and Ghana, credentials come from the M-PESA OpenAPI developer portal; for Mozambique, from the Vodacom Mozambique developer portal under Account → Profile. If you’re unsure which credentials your account was issued, ask Vodacom merchant support before you start.
Once you have your credentials, go to Config → Finance → Payment Gateways → Vodacom M-PESA in Powerlynx and fill in the form. The gateway only appears in the list when your country (Config → System → Localization) matches one of the five supported markets.
Then enable Vodacom M-PESA for each location that should offer it: go to Locations, open a location, switch to the Payment Gateways tab, and turn it on. If it’s disabled, customers at that location won’t see it as a payment option.
