Powerlynx supports Selcom — a payment gateway for Tanzania that lets your customers pay for Wi-Fi directly from their local mobile money wallet. No bank card, no redirect to a payment website. Selcom sends a payment prompt straight to the customer’s phone, and they approve it with their wallet PIN.
Four Mobile Wallets, One Integration
Through Selcom, Powerlynx accepts payments from the four local mobile money wallets Selcom supports:
- M-Pesa
- Airtel Money
- Tigo Pesa
- Halopesa
Selcom settles in TZS only and is available exclusively for Tanzania. The gateway appears in your Powerlynx payment gateway list only when Tanzania is selected under Config → System → Localization. Card payments are not available through Selcom.
More Ways to Monetize Your Wi-Fi Hotspot with Powerlynx
Selcom joins the growing list of payment gateways Powerlynx already supports, including Vodacom M-PESA, MTN MoMo, M-Pesa, 1Voucher, FNB Voucher, Netcash, DPO Pay, PayPal, Stripe, Payfast, Xendit, Paystack, and more. Your customers always have a payment option that works for them.
How Customers Pay with Selcom
The customer never leaves Powerlynx during checkout — the payment is approved entirely on their phone:
- The customer chooses Selcom as the payment method on the splash page.
- If Powerlynx does not already have a phone number on file, the customer enters one — that’s where the prompt is sent. The number is used for this payment only and discarded when the session ends.
- The customer sees a “payment pending” page. Selcom sends a payment prompt for the exact amount to their phone.
- The customer enters their wallet PIN on the phone. Within about 15–30 seconds the pending page moves on and internet access starts.
If the customer does not approve the prompt within 15 minutes, the payment fails and the pending page shows an error with the option to try again. Powerlynx always confirms the payment by asking Selcom for the order status directly — so a payment still completes if the customer closes the browser after approving the prompt.
Minimum Payment: TZS 200
Selcom does not accept payments below TZS 200. If a data plan costs less, the customer sees an error and nothing is sent to their phone. Make sure every plan you sell through Selcom is priced at TZS 200 or more.
How to Start Accepting Selcom Payments
You need a Selcom merchant account. You will need three values from your Selcom merchant onboarding — Vendor ID, API key, and API secret. If you do not have them, contact Selcom merchant support — they are not self-service.
Once you have your credentials, go to Config → Finance → Payment Gateways → Selcom in Powerlynx and fill in the form. Then enable Selcom for each location that should offer it: go to Locations, open a location, switch to the Payment Gateways tab, and turn on Selcom. If it’s disabled, customers at that location won’t see it as a payment option.
