It is built by the team behind Splynx, the ISP billing and network management platform used by 1,000+ internet providers worldwide. Powerlynx was launched in 2024. It is fully cloud-based: there is no on-premises or self-hosted version. Many competitors focus on card payments in Western markets. Powerlynx also works natively with local mobile money and cash-to-PIN voucher systems, such as Safaricom M-PESA, MTN MoMo, Vodacom M-PESA, Selcom, M-PAiSA, 1Voucher, OTT Voucher and FNB Voucher. This lets ISPs and venue operators earn revenue in rural and developing regions where many customers do not have a bank card. The platform is hardware-agnostic.
